The Meet-Cute.

Our show explores relationships. There's a moment in our show where we show the audience the "meet cute," a term I learned from the movie The Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet. The "meet cute" is the moment in the movies, or in our lives where we meet our next relationship in a cute way. And in true rom-com fashion the players are unaware of the impending romance and subsequent heartache.

For those that don't know my heart is like Fort Knox. There are a few people with security clearance, and if you're caught on the premises without the proper documentation you'll be shot on sight. That said, I was approached by a man named Shogun at a Starbucks in the the Bronx. Yes, that's his real name. A well meaning fellow who seemed genuinely nervous to talk to me. After a few weeks of running into one another, he got up the courage to talk to me.

Before shooting him down, I let Shogun plead his case. He began the conversation with a hypothetical question that involved a guy asking a girl in a coffee shop for her number. I was amused by the approach so humored him. I told him that this hypothetical guy is best off by giving his number to the girl to avoid being creepy. He gave me card. Creepiness and awkwardness avoided.

A few weeks later (during which I never called) he approached again. He said that since the hypothetical girl never called, he wondered if it would be okay for him to ask for her number. I obliged.

I don't think this was a meet cute, but the players never know.
